Gabrovo prepares low-emission industrial zone
Gabrovo Municipality is preparing an investment concept for the construction of a carbon-neutral industrial zone. The idea is to assess the feasibility of producing energy through photovoltaics in factories in the city's Northern Industrial Zone. In addition, technical audits will be carried out to achieve project readiness for energy renovation of 60 multi-family residential buildings, as well as preliminary studies for the introduction of energy-efficient measures in public buildings to reach energy class "A".
The investment concept will include economic, legal and engineering analysis, management structure and principles, financial strategy and a roadmap for implementation and monitoring. The aim is to help municipal facilities, homeowners and local businesses access different sources of financing in the future. The document should be ready by autumn this year.
The initiative is part of a European City Facility project for which the Municipality of Gabrovo has signed a contract worth EUR 60 000. It is implemented under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Through the grant, more than 200 cities and municipalities in the European Union will develop climate and energy concepts. At national level, in addition to Gabrovo, the grant applications for municipalities of Dobrich, Burgas and Belene have also been approved.
