EU with bigger climate ambitions for COP27

The EU has agreed to increase its climate ambitions for the UN climate conference COP27, which will be held in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November, https://euobserver.com/ reports.

After pledging to cut carbon emissions by 55 percent in 2030 as part of its 12,000-page "Fit for 55" legislative proposal, EU experts hope the ambitions will be increased.

One of the most concrete proposals to address the climate finance gap came from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) at an informal summit in the Democratic Republic of Congo in early October - the creation of a Loss and Damage Fund. It will raise money from governments in regular voluntary fundraising rounds in a model similar to the UN's €100 billion Green Climate Fund.
